Jane came to the Community Assistance Program recently. As the single mother of two, Jane was recently hospitalized for several weeks after suffering domestic violence. While in the hospital, all of Jane's clothing and possessions were taken. Jane had to go into hiding while the legal system worked through her restraining order and custody issues. Fortunately, because of a caring employer, Jane was able to keep her job. However, Jane wasn't able to work full time for several months as a result of her injuries and her domestic issues. Jane came to CAP for rental assistance. As we talked with Jane, we came to understand the full extent of her needs. In addition to helping her pay her rent until she could catch up, we gave her a voucher for 2nd HELPings (HELP's Thrift Store) where she was able to get clothing for herself, her children and to replace many of the household goods that had been taken from her. We also gave her food from the food pantry and helped her to pay her utility bills. Without this assistance she may have lost her housing, her transportation and ultimately, her job.
